speakeasy : a mobile app project
As a part of continued education in New York City, I completed a User Experience course at General Assembly.
Below is a favorite mobile app proposal project that demonstrates my understanding of Design Thinking principles, method, and application.
I approached this project with an initial idea—people need a resource to help them find local bars with conversation-friendly noise levels.
What must I investigate to see if this resource need truly existed? How would I conduct my research, and what groups would I investigate?
I began my investigation by comparing existing resources side by side in a competitive analysis. None of the competition made noise level a priority.
I decided to focus on 5 key factors when compiling interview questions for research with members of the target audience.
From the interviews, I selected some key quotes to identify common themes and insights.
Although all interviewees described a feeling of frustration when trying to converse in a noisy bar, it was the interviewees in their 30’s and older that experienced this feeling the most. Other findings concerned those with hearing problems and those with small children.
Since my goal was to design an app for real people, I created user personas based on my research findings.

Based on all research findings, I was able to define a problem statement.

Completed screen designs allowed me to create a clickable prototype for user testing.
